I have an extensive online magazine available in both english and french. I wanted to update to the latest french language pack but just to be safe I downloaded my forums' french language and saved it on the computer. That way if, for some obscene reason, the new language pack erased my custom phrases I'd have a backup.

To my suprise it seems the new language pack did erase all my custom phrase translations (which I had paid hundreds of dollars to have done over the past few years I might add). I promtly re-uploaded my saved language and the translations are still missing!!!!!!!

Why on Earth would importing a new language erase custom phrases? Please tell me the years of work have not been erased, please.

Every language pack imported erase all custom phrases (French or any other language).

If you have saved your custom phrases and have imported them into phpMyAdmin, you must to rebuild languages for having your custom phrases back.

Any imported language pack erase all custom phrase because these phrases are not in the language file. Else, these phrases are not custom.

J'ai telecharger ma langue francais avant de le remplacer avec la nouvelle. Je n'utilise pas phpmyadmin. Qu'est ce que je peut faire?

Ton hébergeur n'aurait pas une sauvegarde de ta BDD des fois ?

I have restored form backup and the problem has been reversed. Thank you. I would highly suggest, however to make

a) the option to save all custom phrases default in the admincp (as in you dont need to be in debug mode to see it).

b) have language packs leave custom phrases intact on upload.

This would avert any future disasters.
